All you adventure junkies get ready for a new high because the sport of surfing has now become popular in our very own country.India has a beautiful coastline over 7500 km (4600 miles) including that of the exotic island groups, providing many opportune places for surfing. Some hotspots to try surfing are Mahabalipuram, Kovalam (Covelong) and Manapad in Tamil Nadu, Murdeshwara  and Kapu Beach in Karnataka, Kovalam and Varkala in Kerala and the haven for water sports the Andaman and Lakshadweep Islands.

The gigantic overwhelming waves can usually be seen between May and September, the pre-monsoon and monsoon season. Stand up paddling and surfing although not in trend earlier, is rapidly becoming a rage for the youngsters. Spot wild mangroves, cute dolphins, and the gigantic whale sharks as you surf your way with the ferocious waves. On most days the waves are likely to be quite gentle—anywhere between 2 ft and 5 ft. The waters are good enough for most surfers. You can go stand up paddling any time of the year. The best time for surfing is between September and November and then again in March, April and May. June, July and August are only suitable for professionals.
